True leadership, rather than being the practice of power, is the practice of influence and building followership. Being influential requires understanding how your personal style and presence impact people in ways intended and unintended. At GISC, we develop your leadership by teaching the skill of personal awareness, both of yourself and others, giving you the data you need to become more influential. This workshop is an introduction to our model of influential leadership, and the interpersonal skills that build highly effective groups and organizations. These skills include productive ways to give feedback, and how to have conversations that contain difficult content. We also focus on how to manage differences and work with the dynamics of change and resistance. Our small group model dramatically improves the effectiveness of teams and work groups.
Through a combination of presentations, personal and small group exercises, and discussion, you will have a new understanding of what makes effective leadership in yourself and in others. Pre-workshop readings and post-workshop contact with faculty is included to facilitate integration of the material.
