Nestled in the woods of South Wellfleet, adjacent to the Cape Cod National Seashore bike trail, our training center was designed for us by Boston architect Fred Todd. It is a comfortable, functional, and attractive setting for intensive study and learning, designed to connect the indoor and outdoor learning spaces year-round. The retreat-like setting allows participants to disconnect from daily life and immerse themselves in the learning.

TRAINING FACILITIES: The Sonia March Nevis & Edwin C. Nevis Meeting House, named after GISC's founders, contains a social hall, large meeting room, four breakout rooms, administrative offices, kitchen and library — all handicapped-accessible. BUSINESS CENTER: Wireless internet access is available throughout the building and computer workstations, printer and phone are provided for your use in our library. Our office staff are happy to receive faxes and packages on your behalf. HOUSING AND DINING: Ample lodging and restaurant choices are nearby. Choose from brand name hotels, local motels, cottages, and bed and breakfast inns in Wellfleet and nearby towns that offer our students special rates. When you register for a program you will receive housing choices from our office so you can make your reservations. More information about travel arrangements and lodging can be found on the About Cape Cod page. STAYING ACTIVE: We have complementary bicycles available on a first come first serve basis so you can take advantage of the bike trail. Our students who are runners often make use of the bike trail during their lunch breaks and we have changing and shower facilities in the building to make it convenient to prepare for the afternoon sessions. Day passes to a comprehensive fitness facility just 7 minutes away can be arranged. OUR SETTING: On the grounds are two magnificent sculptures by Benson Selzer,
whose Coplex Foundation provided the initial funding for GISC
and also contributed to the construction of the Meeting House. A
generous private donation in 2005 funded the creation of inviting
outdoor seating areas, surrounded by native plants, “…to honor all
who come here in pursuit of knowledge and for the love of nature.”
Another anonymous donation in 2008 provided the funds to pay off
the mortgages, leaving GISC free to focus resources on training,
faculty, and theory development. RENTING AND VISITING: The Meeting House is available for study group meetings, institute retreats, and more. It is also available for rent, with preference and discounts given to members. Inquire about availability and rates, and let us know if you will be in the area and would like to visit. |
"Another powerful resource for this important work is the beautiful and highly functional physical space that you provide in your new conference center. The space is perfectly designed for a group of 30 – 50 people. It is light, airy, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable to work in all day long. The surrounding environment is also very accessible, as we learned from our afternoon activities in the outdoor space. And the ease of quickly accessing the wider external environment (beaches, woods, towns, as well as restaurants, cafes and shops) expands the range of possible activities even further." |
