Skills for Healthcare Transformation

Today’s healthcare leaders must take on transformative change in their organizations while sustaining the loyalty and positive engagement of their clinicians. This workshop is an introduction to a distinctive model of influential leadership for application in the healthcare context. The highly-interactive program provides healthcare leaders with tools and techniques to increase effectiveness leading change in their organizations.





Using a variety of adult learning techniques, participants will have a unique opportunity to understand and leverage their impact in leadership settings and use it for achieving strategic aims. Participants will work with a model that has been effectively applied in a number of healthcare systems—both large and small. Features of the model include the natural history of the change cycle, gaining explicit and shared understanding of the change among collaborating stakeholders, mobilizing energy for change, prototyping, and creating sustainability.

This program is taught by Marianne Roy, healthcare organizational development consultant, and Dr. Les Schwab, physician executive. This dynamic team provides decades of experience working in diverse healthcare organizations.


Participants will:

  • Learn a change model that has been effectively applied in a number of healthcare systems
  • Apply this model of change to a variety of leadership contexts, including teams and reporting relationships
  • Understand change efforts from a systems perspective
  • Gain awareness of the important competencies of change leaders and how to encourage their development
  • Receive real-time feedback about their presence and impact and have an opportunity to experiment with honing it in a safe environment
  • Develop conversations about alignment with organizational strategy
  • Develop conversations about effective accountability for performance of goals
  • Learn to interpret the inevitable resistance encountered and discover ways to engage with it effectively
  • Accomplish all of this in an environment of trust, support and candor within a group of like-minded peers

GISC has trained healthcare professionals from the following organizations: Ampersand Health, Cleveland Clinic, Exeter Hospital, Franklin Memorial Hospital, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, NYU Langone Medical Center, Orthopedic Associates, Outer Cape Health Services, Primary Care Progress, and St. Luke’s Hospital/Southcoast Health, and delivered a system-wide mentor-training and leadership development program at the Baldrige Award-winning Southcentral Foundation in Alaska.
