Annual Organizational Conference: Developing Organizational Cultures of Creative Candor

This conference will explore how leaders can create cultures in which authentic communication is deeply embedded and speaking the "unspeakable" is common. In these organizations, there is a free flow of communication and it is common for members to feel relatively free to express ideas and feelings. Leaders are skilled in stating a powerful vision, in creating an environment of transparency, and in holding the difficult conversations necessary to produce transformational change.

The conference is designed around several cases in which creative candor is a significant component of highly successful organizational performance. Leaders of these organizations will present the story of how they built the foundation for a culture that combines authentic communication and a strong focus on “bottom-line” results. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with these leaders and to apply the lessons of these cases to their own situation.

The following presentations have been planned:

"Building A Highly Effective Dispersed Nonprofit Organization Through Authentic Communication" - Steven Dawson, President, and Sara Joffe, Organizational and Executive Coach, Paraprofessional Health Care Institute. Forging a well integrated organization in hard times through transparency and difficult conversations among leaders and staff.

"From Ikea's Meatballs to Nick's Pizza: Recipes for Successful and Profitable Company Cultures From A Gestalt Perspective" Ake Johannson, Consultant (Sweden) & Chris Adams and Nick Sarillo, Nicks Pizza & Pub

Case presentations will be augmented by discussions and a session to pull together the concepts and principles behind the cases. We will also look at how training in the Cape Cod Model may enhance creation of candor in organizations .

“As an entrepreneur, I naturally applied my learning at GISC to the culture of my company. As a result I have created a culture of trust and a business model that has continued to exceed expectations and has outperformed industry averages, not only when times were good, but – in what has proven to be even more essential – in a
downturn in the economy. The days of having trust as a soft skill, or something nice to have, are gone. Trust in a company culture is key to success in the marketplace
and even more so in the workplace. My leadership skills that were developed at GISC are on the leading edge in leadership, and GISC has also given me the tools to develop those same skills in the managers in my company. Although we continue to run great operations and meet or exceed profit goals as one of the results, I believe an even better bottom-line result is the positive work environment we have created that continues to draw top talent and low turnover.”
